Psychosynthesis psychology #01

What is Psychosynthesis Psychology?

Psychosynthesis literally means 'soulmaking'. It is a deep yet practical psychological approach which addresses

  • the impact of our past experiences
  • the life we live now: our struggles, challenges and choices
  • our potential for love, intelligence, creativity and spiritual growth.

It was founded in the early part of the 20th century by the Italian psychologist Roberto Assagioli who built on Freud's concern with the 'basement' of the human psyche to develop an approach that was "interested in the whole building", including the 'transpersonal' or spiritual realms.

Assagioli observed within human beings an innate drive towards synthesis, the process whereby seemingly unrelated fragments can come together to create greater wholeness. Psychosynthesis, therefore, is more than are model for treating psychological distress: by holding our wounds and struggles with compassion, insight and imagination , it is possible to connect to and develop a deeper sense of meaning, purpose and direction.

We have already been given everything we need; our task is to assemble and use it in appropriate ways.
